If you thought this weekend's Alabama vs. Georgia game was just another SEC battle you would be partially correct.
It is going to be a knock down, drag out affair, but it's also going to showcase two of the best freshman wide receivers in the country. One, Julio Jones from 'Bama, has been called "Junior T.O.", the other, A.J. Green from Georgia, is known to some as "Little Randy".
And since YouTube videos are worth substantially more than 1,000 words I present you with some highlights of each player(prep). Just sit back, and let their amazing moves soothe your college football soul.
Can't wait for Saturday night now can you? Be patient my friends, you'll be seeing some amazing SEC catches in no time.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Volvette Edition
Since it's Friday, and the end of the workweek for most people, we think that you should be provided with a post that takes the edge off so to speak. Because it's going to be random and hopefully humorous, that means that it won't always be sports related. It will also pop up at any time on Friday.
When you hear the term "Volvette" you probably don't know what to think. Sure, it sounds a bit girly, and maybe even some visions of pink and purple sedans and wagons pop into your head. However, if you don't think that this thing means serious business, then you are sadly, sadly mistaken. Especially, if you're still doubting it when it pulls up next to you at the stoplight with a rear cargo area full of groceries. That's because it's got a twin turbo LS1 stuffed under the hood, and can cover the quarter mile in less than 12 seconds. It is definitely one badass grocery getter, and would make any car enthusiast will the clock to strike 5 so they can enjoy their commute home basking in that sweet turbo V8 sound.
Happy Friday!

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Raconteurs Edition
Since it's Friday, and the end of the workweek for most people, we think that you should be provided with a post that takes the edge off so to speak. Because it's going to be random and hopefully humorous, that means that it won't always be sports related. It will also pop up at any time on Friday.
The new Raconteurs is pretty good, and it's been in heavy rotation on my iPod. So, I figured that they should get their own "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" post since some of the blogs posted this week were done with them rocking out in the background.
First, we get the live version of "Consolers of the Lonely". My favorite track off of the new cd:
Sweet guitar riffs + kickass drum work + well flowing lyrics = Awesome!
But if you really want to kickstart your weekend might I suggest their cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy"? You'll be smashing the phone, and hurling your Rolodex in no time!
Happy Friday!

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Speed Kills Edition

Since it's Friday, and the end of the workweek for most people, we think that you should be provided with a post that takes the edge off so to speak. Because it's going to be random and hopefully humorous, that means that it won't always be sports related. It will also pop up at any time on Friday.
At some point you've probably heard a coach or announcer say something about how you "can't coach speed"(though, some crack and a pair of Nikes won't make you any slower). Or, if you're a Madden fan, then you might have heard Big John exclaim "speed kills!" while getting torched by an opponent. In any case, speed can be a wonderful asset to your team. And if guys like Percy Harvin, Trindon Holliday and Noel Devine are prized because of their quickness, then the Z06 is cherished because it's like them with a shot of adrenaline that's been mixed with Red Bull.
When you're doing 100mph, and get passed like this you realize exactly what fast means.
Happy Friday!

Beat The Fastest Gators, Win A Scholarship
When I attended the University of Florida, I heard stories about how some of my new classmates/friends/etc. were great high school athletes. How they could have had a full ride to some college, but they didn't want to go to school there or they got injured at some point. No doubt, some of them were indeed standouts in their respective sports. Unfortunately, none of them were given the opportunity to win a full scholarship by beating a Florida football player in a 40-yard dash.
Though, these aren't just any Florida football players. They are some of, if not the fastest guys on the team. It's a group that includes Chris Rainey, Deonte Thompson and Louis Murphy. Now, Rainey and Thompson are well known burners. They were highly sought after recruits, and Rainey even has a few parking lot wins against Noel Devine under his belt. However, Murphy might be the fastest out of the group. At least he was last summer.
Florida wide receivers Andre Caldwell and Percy Harvin have this thing about speed, and debating who's the fastest player on the team. When they start talking smack about it (which apparently is often), Louis Murphy dishes out the line that ends the argument.
Continue to 2nd paragraph "I just tell them to look at the board," Murphy said.
The board Murphy refers to is the one hanging in the UF weight room that lists the players with the fastest 40-yard dash times on the team. The name on top isn't Caldwell or Harvin. It's Murphy. And next to his name is the staggering time: 4.25 seconds.
"We're always talking about speed and racing each other," Murphy said. "They always say they can beat me. I tell them, "Hey, it's on the board."
Seriously? A 4.25? Murphy could take it easy the entire way, kick it on at the end and still blow out his competition. Either way, it's going to be fun to watch, and it's a great way for Urban Meyer to showcase the football program on a national stage since it's being broadcast on ESPN. And just to show you what the students are up against, here are some videos/links displaying their skills.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Kegerator Edition
Since it's Friday, and the end of the workweek for most people, we think that you should be provided with a post that takes the edge off so to speak. Because it's going to be random and hopefully humorous, that means that it won't always be sports related. It will also pop up at any time on Friday.
So you're an avid sportsfan. You enjoy hitting your favorite sportsbar for some wings and cold beer for big games. For some reason the beer just tastes better. It's colder, crisper and more pure. Even lower quality brews like Busch Light somehow taste decent when they come out of a chilled keg. Well, what if I told you that you can have that same joyous experience everyday in the comfort of your own home?
No I'm not crazy! All you have to do is set yourself up with a piece of equipment that's a standard item at college campuses nationwide. It's a kegerator, and it's fucking awesome! Imagine walking in from a hard day of work, and seeing a tap handle that, when it's pulled, delivers ice cold beer into your favorite frosty mug. Yes, it's possible, and very, very wonderful.
Now, I've used these before, but not in a long time. That was until a friend offered his for basically the $30 deposit that he paid on the almost full keg of Bud Light that came with the kegerator. It was the deal of the century(well, at least the week), and now there's a cold keg of beer sitting in the kitchen ready to be drank at any hour of the day. So, on this Friday afternoon, as the clock ticks closer to 5PM, marvel at the kegerator in all its glory, and be thankful for the technology that has brought us this wonderful device.
Happy Friday!

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - QOTSA Edition
Since it's Friday, and the end of the workweek for most people, we think that you should be provided with a post that takes the edge off so to speak. Because it's going to be random and hopefully humorous, that means that it won't always be sports related. It will also pop up at any time on Friday.
I must say that thanks to Big Daddy Drew's Jamboroo posts on Deadspin, I've been rediscovering why I like Queens Of The Stone Age(QOTSA for those of us "in the know") so much. Obviously, they have a number of kickass, melt your face, destroy your eardrums, break your skull songs that are capable of leaving you in a bloody, battered heap in the corner. However, one song that I particularly enjoy is "Mosquito Song" from the "Songs For The Deaf" CD. It's not a harsh rock tune, but there is something eerie about it. It becomes even creepier when you read the lyrics.
Happy Friday!

Can Red Bull Please Take Over Olympic Skating?
Whenever someone makes ice skating look cool I think they've accomplished quite a feat. For the most part, it's something that draws comparisons to watching paint dry, and leaves people wishing for a horrendous wipeout. Unless they're viewing Red Bull's "Crashed Ice" event. In that case, they're probably hopped up on Red Bulls, yelling at the TV and letting out an "oooohhh" everytime someone smacks into an ice wall.
And exactly what does this event consist of?
Basically you outfit four competitors in hockey gear, then turn them loose on a luge-like course that includes a steep downhill start, a number of jumps and a series of bumps and turns. This year's event took place this past Friday and Saturday in Quebec City, and it was awesome as usual.
Maybe someday the Olympic committee will ask Red Bull for their input on some of the more boring events. It couldn't hurt.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - You Wish You Were This Good At Something Edition

You know how when you see an athlete do something on the field it sometimes makes you wish that you were as good at something, anything, as they are at their sport? Well, this video is like that. Let me tell you, I surf decently, and I can snowboard 'ok', but me and skateboarding never really seemed to get along. Rodney Mullen on the other hand? He pretty much makes skateboarding his bitch. Watch and appreciate/envy/cry, or whatever else it causes you to do.

Vince McMahon's Newest Recruit
Normally, high school wrestling is full of grappling, referee stoppages and the occasional pin. Rarely does one of the participants execute a flashy move that wows the crowd. And honestly, I have no idea how this kid didn't hurt himself.
All it needs is a turnbuckle and a top rope, and this kid would be all set for Wrestlemania, brother!
