Originally, I was going to put up a post regarding "He Got Game" in honor of Ray Allen's play last night. However, due to recent, and very sad, events it's been replaced to honor the memory of Tim Russert. He died today of a heart attack at the age of 58.

I always thought he did a good job hosting "Meet The Press", and his political coverage seemed to be pretty fair(well, as fair as one can be in that arena). Death is never an easy thing to deal with, but when it strikes suddenly at the age of 58 years young it's even harder. My condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.



R.I.P. Tim Russert.

When you hear the term "Volvette" you probably don't know what to think. Sure, it sounds a bit girly, and maybe even some visions of pink and purple sedans and wagons pop into your head. However, if you don't think that this thing means serious business, then you are sadly, sadly mistaken. Especially, if you're still doubting it when it pulls up next to you at the stoplight with a rear cargo area full of groceries. That's because it's got a twin turbo LS1 stuffed under the hood, and can cover the quarter mile in less than 12 seconds. It is definitely one badass grocery getter, and would make any car enthusiast will the clock to strike 5 so they can enjoy their commute home basking in that sweet turbo V8 sound.

At some point you've probably heard a coach or announcer say something about how you "can't coach speed"(though, some crack and a pair of Nikes won't make you any slower). Or, if you're a Madden fan, then you might have heard Big John exclaim "speed kills!" while getting torched by an opponent. In any case, speed can be a wonderful asset to your team. And if guys like Percy Harvin, Trindon Holliday and Noel Devine are prized because of their quickness, then the Z06 is cherished because it's like them with a shot of adrenaline that's been mixed with Red Bull.

When you're doing 100mph, and get passed like this you realize exactly what fast means.

This week's post is focused squarely on the awesomeness that replaced my beard last night. I put together a decent beard over the past two months, but last night I decided that it was time for it to go. However, I didn't want all of my hard work to go to waste, so I carved it into something totally ridiculous, yet incredibly incredible. I'm pretty sure that I've never posted a pic of myself on this blog before, but this is just too good to pass up. This week's post is dedicated to motorcycling. I've always wanted a bike, but never thought that I was responsible enough to own one. I've ridden friend's bikes off and on, but never had one that I could get out and ride anytime that I wanted. Well, hopefully that's about to change. A friend of mine is getting ready to purchase a bike, and it's motivated me to get my finances in order so that I can get one too. For the longest time I've been a fan of the CBR F4's, especially the F4i, but I've always had a thing for the "naked" bikes. And that's why I've been pricing out the various models of the Ducati Monster, and hope to own one in the somewhat near future.

It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere - Running Edition

I used to run a lot when I was younger. Throughout my later years of high school and into college I probably averaged 40-50 miles of running per week. However, I eventually got burnt out, and that average dropped down close to 0. I was still being active, but I wasn't logging the miles or running competitvely like I had before. Well, this past Christmas I received the Nike+ system, and it's motivated me to get out and start running again. I've also decided to start preparing myself to run a 5K hopefully in March or April. It's been a long time, but it all seems so familiar.

So this week's "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" post is dedicated to Chris Legh. He's the triathlete who collapsed and almost died during the Hawaii Ironman event. However, he was able to overcome his obstacles with training and knowledge, and won the 2004 Ironman Cour D'Alene. Hopefully, I'll be able to "snap the tape" in whatever races I decide to enter.

So you're an avid sportsfan. You enjoy hitting your favorite sportsbar for some wings and cold beer for big games. For some reason the beer just tastes better. It's colder, crisper and more pure. Even lower quality brews like Busch Light somehow taste decent when they come out of a chilled keg. Well, what if I told you that you can have that same joyous experience everyday in the comfort of your own home?

No I'm not crazy! All you have to do is set yourself up with a piece of equipment that's a standard item at college campuses nationwide. It's a kegerator, and it's fucking awesome! Imagine walking in from a hard day of work, and seeing a tap handle that, when it's pulled, delivers ice cold beer into your favorite frosty mug. Yes, it's possible, and very, very wonderful.

Now, I've used these before, but not in a long time. That was until a friend offered his for basically the $30 deposit that he paid on the almost full keg of Bud Light that came with the kegerator. It was the deal of the century(well, at least the week), and now there's a cold keg of beer sitting in the kitchen ready to be drank at any hour of the day. So, on this Friday afternoon, as the clock ticks closer to 5PM, marvel at the kegerator in all its glory, and be thankful for the technology that has brought us this wonderful device.

Been busy, oh so busy. Hence the lack of quality posting today. Don't worry, I'll make up for it eventually. Anyway, this edition of "It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere" is based around "giving props" to the New York Giants. In case you've been sleeping under a rock instead of pushing it uphill, the Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl and ended their perfect season. It was fucking unbelievable, and from now on if you ever see a member of that team out in public please offer to buy them a drink. They deserve it.

I must say that thanks to Big Daddy Drew's Jamboroo posts on Deadspin, I've been rediscovering why I like Queens Of The Stone Age(QOTSA for those of us "in the know") so much. Obviously, they have a number of kickass, melt your face, destroy your eardrums, break your skull songs that are capable of leaving you in a bloody, battered heap in the corner. However, one song that I particularly enjoy is "Mosquito Song" from the "Songs For The Deaf" CD. It's not a harsh rock tune, but there is something eerie about it. It becomes even creepier when you read the lyrics.

Let me tell you, I surf decently, and I can snowboard 'ok', but me and skateboarding never really seemed to get along. Rodney Mullen on the other hand? He pretty much makes skateboarding his bitch. I'm a big fan of Rob & Big. It seems that just about every episode has something that causes me to laugh to the verge of crying. Whether it's mini-horses, freestyle raps or weight loss challenges, I find the show funny as hell. This season it appears that a net gun is going to play a significant part in the hi-jinx. Rob bought it after someone mysteriously crapped in his pool, and up until the new episode he had only used it on family and friends. That was before he came across a bitchass Spider-Man imposter.

Spidey ended up tossing a cup of coffee on Rob's Urban Assault Vehicle, and for the rest of the episode Rob couldn't get it out of his head. In the end, he exacted his revenge using Spidey's own power, the ability to shoot a net, against him. It's hilarious, and the perfect addition to this Friday's posting.

Christmas is only four days away, and to help you get into the spirit I present a video of house lights synchronized to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. At first, this seems like a very cool setup. Then you realize that if this was your neighbor, then you would probably be pissed for the couple of weeks that he has it stretched across his frontlawn. And therein lies the true spirit of the holiday. Sure, getting things for people is fun, but the actual act of shopping in a bunch of different stores, with a shitload of people, really sucks.
